Show HN: Socratify: Learn by Debating – critical thinking coach
socratify.comSocratify is an AI coach for early stage professionals to sharpen their critical thinking and verbal communication skills
Ever since ChatGPT came out, I've been using it to debate and learn new ideas. Having a short insightful conversation where AI coaches you can be powerful but it's hard to get right with a general purpose chat LLM because they don't propose stories, lack context and don't track progression
I'm building Socratify with the hypothesis that a product built around AI questioning humans and proposing interesting questions daily can be 100x more rewarding than book summaries and other passive content.
Inspired by Charlie Munger's concept of a latticework of models that you apply to new situation. Socratify teaches you a concept (e.g., Disruption), discusses a situation where it's applicable, (e.g., Google vs. Perplexity) and gives you feedback as well as the strongest counterargument

Overall interesting idea. Not sure how it could change ChatGPT with more curated prompts. There are couple thing I didn't liked about it:
1. It seems that you cannot create your own topics or at least I couldn't find in the dashboard how to create new one.
2. For some reason it requires a microphone access before the start of discussion. Landing never mentioned that you will have to talk with it.
Thanks for using it!
[1] Yes, you can't create your own topics currently - we curate topics and give the AI a lot of context so it has a meaningful discussion. The reasoning is chatgpt et al are probably better are arbitrary topics vs. we go deeper on curated topics
[2] Ah good point. I'll make that clearer on the landing page and later in the onboarding process too. Will add a text chat option as others have asked for that
Thank you!
Pressed "Try for free" and it brought up a survey so I exited the tab.
Thanks. There's a short 4 multiple choice question onboarding flow so we can improve content and personalize over time. 1. How did you hear about us? 2. Whats your familiarity with business and investing topics? 3. What industries you're interested in? 4. Set a goal for using the app
After those 4 questions you can sign in and go through 5 free stories. Hope you'll try it
